The Screaming Skull Protective Mask Cover protects your PS3

Obviously, writing for a gadget site, I find gadgets cool. However, at some point you find yourself with as many gadgets as you really need, possibly more. At which case you have to figure out what to do with the money you set aside for gadget funding. This is the point when you can either keep buying gadgets or find ways to pamper the ones you currently have with skins and cases. The PS3 already has a nice sleek design, the all black case looks plenty good all on its own.

Frankly in most cases I would never consider covering it, yet this cover is probably the one cover that could change my mind. The protective mask cover features a screaming skull trying to push its way out of your PS3. It is also a little different than a skin, because it isn’t actually a sticky cover. It’s a hard shell that attaches instead of being just a giant pretty sticker. It is being sold on SourcingMap for $10.99 a piece.

Secret Pen Camcorder

I think this will be better than the chewing gum wrapper spy cam. This pen is hidden with a 2.0MP CMOS camera and a 4GB flash memory onboard. It records video at 352×288 pixels with 128kbps PCM audio and powered by a built-in Li-ion battery which charged via USB cable. The Spy Secret Pen Camcorder is available for $50.

Nice one, it is from Altec Lansing, the Expressionist Bass Speakers. It is a cone-shaped PC speakers that comes with a 4-inch long-throw subwoofer into the base. That’s right, the bass is in the base of each speaker. Separate 1 ½” drivers deliver mid and high frequencies so vocals and details come through with brilliant clarity. An auxiliary input allows convenient connection of any MP3 player. The Expressionist Bass Speakers is going to be available next month for $150.

LG Lotus is fashion inspired

If you’re one who prefers form over function, I am pretty sure the LG Lotus cell phone will catch your eye. After all, this is one handset that is the result of a love affair between LG Electronics and fashion designer Christian Siriano. In case that name sounds rather familiar to some of you, that’s because Christian Siriano is the winner of season IV of the reality show known as Project Runway. LG Lotus will be available for preview at the New York City Fashion week from today onwards, aiming to elevate the humble cell phone as some sort of fashion accessory. I thought that place was already taken up by the iPhone 3G, so will this be the new king of the hill?

The LG Lotus is a Sprint exclusive, so those of you who want a piece of the action might have to jump ship if you’re currently attached to a different subscirber. The LG Lotus definitely makes a “distinctive fashion statement”, featuring a full QWERTY keyboard that comes in a clamshell form factor. It takes on a special square shape and will be available in a couple of colors - textured purple or satin black. This will also be one of the initial Sprint devices that boast One Click, a highly-customizable user interface that aims to make texting, Web access, email, Sprint Navigation, Sprint TV, Sprint Music Store and other features a whole lot easier to access.

Just in case you’re wondering whether the international design community thinks this is up to par to go against your thinking that the Lotus is but one man’s wild dream, it has already picked up the Red Dot Design Award, which coincidentally is one of the largest and most renowned design competitions in the world by virtue of the Lotus’ original form factor. Other features that complete this clamshell phone are a 2 megapixel camera with video recording capability, stereo Bluetooth connectivity, music playback with external controls and a microSD memory card slot that is able to handle up to 12GB of storage space. It will hit all Sprint retail channels this October.

Microsoft SideWinder X8 gaming mouse

A gaming mouse that does not come with wires? Well well, this is definitely going against the grain, but Microsoft doesn’t care as they forge ahead with the SideWinder X8. This wireless gaming mouse relies on a 2.4GHz connection to keep it moving, and it is capable of hitting a ridiculously high 4,000 dpi to match the Razer Lachesis. I am personally using a Lachesis, and I don’t venture anywhere near that amount since it is way too sensitive for me in the midst of a firefight. The SideWinder X8 relies on the recently unveiled BlueTrack laser technology that makes mousing possible on virtually any surface. Microsoft has also touted a 30 hour battery life for active gamers, but I would make sure the battery is fully charged if I’m going to enter any gaming competition with this. Good to know the SideWinder X8 comes with a play-and-charge cable for those emergencies. You can pick up the Microsoft SideWinder X8 for $100 next February.

T9 gets an upgrade with Swype

Some of you might remember texting for the first time, and thinking: “Man, I got to hit one button four times just to get the letter S, the most often used consonant”. T9 was able to remove some of that frustration by guessing what words you would type, but it has a bad habit of mixing up certain words, like texting in the word “home” would often result in the word “good”.

The man who invented T9, Cliff Kushler, has developed a new system of texting called Swype, which allows the user to enter in text by connecting the dots on a touchscreen keyboard. As you can see by the illustration, it allows you to type words “quick”. (See, he’s connecting the letters of the word quick, get it?)

Kushler recently did a demonstration of this product and was able to text at 55 words a minute. I can only guess that this is fast, because I can type on a keyboard a lot faster than that. However, he beat my texting record of twenty words a minute. (Yeah, I’m that slow.)

You know how the T9 program can recognize words? Apparently, the Swype can recognize them as well, because the user does not have to hit the spacebar. Yes, there is something in the program that can recognize words and put the spaces between them automatically.

The designers of Swype are planning to focus putting their new program on Windows Mobile, but there is no word when it will be out, if at all.

Thanko Media Player Sunglasses

This isn’t the first time that we’ve reported on Thanko products before, nor is it the first time we’ve reported on media viewing glasses. Thanko products seem to be selling well, but media viewing glasses still aren’t.

I say this every time I review any media playing glasses, but right now, but media-viewing glasses cannot escape the geek factor. I am still looking forward to an age where these will catch on, but I’m just not certain how far in the future we need to go before everyone is wearing media playing glasses.

As for the Thanko Media Player sunglasses, they can play videos in MP4, MPG, AVI, and ASF formats. Apparently, the glasses are designed for viewing the videos at about 50-inches in comparison, at about 432 x 240.

The material for viewing the audio, video, or photo files can be stored via miniSDcard. The Thanko Media Player Sunglasses allows you to connect to the computer via USB 2.0 for downloading of more files. It also comes with a lithium ion-battery, and four equalizer presets.

The Thanko Media Player Sunglasses comes in a package that contains the sunglasses themselves, a remote control, an AC adapter, earphones, plus a USB cable and carrying case for about $324.
